Remote Thick Clone & Pool Expansion
Thick Clone
Thick Clone combines snapshot and replication to provide an expert of data backup and recovery.
It can prevent data loss from accidental deletion, application crashes, data corruption, and viruses.
-Support NAS Share and Volume
-Asynchronous backup and support scheduled backup
-Support Full Clone and Incremental Clone
-Support local clone and remote clone
Remote Thick Clone Configuration
Remote Thick Clone Preparation
Reserve enough space in the storage pool to store snapshots for thick clone at source storage
Reserve enough space in the storage pool to store cloned volumes and store snapshots for thick clone at destination storage
-Snapshot size could be up to used volumes
-If there is less free pool space reserved and full + incremental snapshot sizes are bigger, the thick clone won’t be able to run.
-If there is no enough volumes for cloned data and for full + incremental snapshot data, the thick clone won’t be able to run.
-Pool expansion will be needed if the pool size is not enough
-Suggest reserving enough pool space for Thick Clone. If there is not enough pool space, pool expansion can be applied.
Pool Expansion
-Pool size can be increased by adding new RAID
-Total usable space will be smaller due to multiple RAID created
-Total performance may be less than singe RAID due to unbalanced access
-The same RAID level should be used for pool expansion
Other Snapshot Features
If enabling Snapshot functions, enough pool storage space should be reserved too.
-Each snapshot copies will occupy the space in the storage pool
-The Storage needs to reserve enough space to keep full snapshot copy and increment snapshot copies.
