The VTrak E5000 series can monitor SSDs to evaluate their remaining useful life.
When using any SAS Solid State Disks in the VTrak E5000, the VTrak controllers monitor the “Percentage Used Endurance Indicator” parameter of each SAS SSD to keep track of approximately how much time the SSD has been used.
When using SATA Solid State Disks in the VTrak E5000, the VTrak controllers monitor the SMART attributes from each SATA SSD to keep track of approximately how much time the SSD has been used.
The SMART data attributes are different for the various SATA SSD vendors, so be sure to only use SATA SSDs that are on the VTrak E5000 Compatibilty List if you want to have reliable lifetime data.
The default threshold for SSD Percent Lifetime Remaining is 10, and if this value goes below 10 the VTrak E5000 controllers will begin a Predictive Data Migration (PDM) for that drive to a configured spare drive.
The Percent Lifetime Remaining threshhold can be changed by the user.
If the Percent Lifetime Remaining value falls below the threshold, this will result in an entry in the Event Log of “SSD endurance indicator is lower than threshold” that has a Major severity level.
