Issue or symptom

When connecting to a Promise VTrak RAIDs with a Web browser such as Safari, an alert message such as this may appear:

"Safari can't verify the identity of the website xx.xx.xx.xx
The certificate for this website was signed by an unknown certifying authority.
You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be 'xx.xx.xx.xx' which could put your confidential information at risk.
Would you like to connect to the website anyway?"

or

"Unable to verify the identity of xx.xx.xx.xx as a trused site."

(...where xx.xx.xx.xx is an actual IP address, such as 192.100.11.25 )

Products affected

  • Promise VTrak E-Class RAID subsystem
  • Safari or third-party Web browser

Solution

You can safely ignore this warning. This message appears because the certificate used by the Promise RAID is self-signed.

If you want to avoid the warning, you can click the "Accept this certificate permanently" option in the message window (appears in some third-party Web browsers). Or, follow these steps for Safari:

  1. Click Show Certificate.
  2. Click the triangle icon the the left of "Trust".
  3. Choose "Always Trust" from the "When using this certificate:" pop-up menu.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Enter an admin name and password if prompted.
