Ultra What does "BIOS not installed because no hard drives are attached" mean?
Ken Chou posted this 14 June 2004

Product: Ultra100TX2

Platform: all

Firmware/Bios Version: all

Additional Description: This message comes up even if a CD is attached

Solution:

No Hard Drives are being detected at the Ultra Bios Posting. Check cables, jumpers, power connectors and lastly check drives to insure they are detected on a standard hard disk controller. This may come up if the only drive is a CD drive. It should still see the CD from the OS. A CD cannot be a boot drive if it is attached to the card. Only a hard drive can be set to boot when attached to the card.

Ultra Why can't I see the Promise card scan during the system boot?

Firmware/Bios Version: all

Additional Description: The Power On Self Test or "POST" should show devices attached to system during the boot

Solution:

There are several reasons why this cannot be seen. You may have the splash screen from the system BIOS enabled (could be shadow or quiet boot) and this should be disabled for diagnostic.

This usually indicates a conflict with another device in the system. To determine which device is conflicting, remove all other PCI peripherals and disable all devices on the motherboard such as USB, LAN, and SCSI. Also, for troubleshooting purposes, try disabling USB boot, PXE boot, Rapid Boot/Quick boot, and Silent Boot. If the card is still not seen there may be a motherboard BIOS conflict. Try the Promise card in another motherboard to confirm this.
